At 180 Medical, it takes a lot of dedicated folks behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly for our customers and day-to-day operations. One of the key people making that happen is Christina, our organization’s Operations and Accreditation Manager. She plays a vital role in ensuring our processes align with industry regulations while keeping our mission of customer care at the forefront.
In this employee spotlight, we’re excited to share more about Christina’s journey, what drives her in her role, and how she helps 180 Medical continue delivering the exceptional service we’re known for.
Christina, tell us about your role as the Operations and Accreditation Manager.
As the Operations and Accreditation Manager, I’m responsible for overseeing our teams who handle our organization’s relationships with our insurance partners as well as our Compliance program. My teams work to safeguard our customers’ protected health information (PHI) while handling external audits, appeals responses, insurance guidelines research and communication, and ensuring we stay compliant with local, state, and federal laws.
Some of what we do in our department may be “behind the scenes.” However, we all work hard to bring our customers the best service experience possible. We treat each task as critical because we understand how our success affects each person’s ability to receive their medically necessary supplies.
What do you love about working at 180 Medical?
The people and my responsibility. I consider myself profoundly blessed because I have the opportunity to work for one of the greatest companies in the world, per Peakon, and with some of the most incredible people, per our customer surveys. I truly believe in the quote from Confucius, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Though some days are tough, my team’s electric energy keeps me grounded, and my passion for Compliance, Privacy, and Education maintains my motivation.
People are sometimes genuinely surprised at how much I love what I get to do.
What’s something special about working for 180 Medical?
We’re all a big family here. It is fun to watch my coworkers interact, from giving advice or sharing good-natured jokes to enjoying each other’s company. You never get the feeling that people are just pretending.
The best part is that everyone shares joy in each other’s successes. At the quarterly meetings, other employees are genuinely excited to see their coworkers receive awards. There are hugs, tears, and shouts of celebration. It’s rare to see people celebrate others’ victories as their own.
Recently, I earned my Certification in Healthcare Compliance, CHC, something I have been working for years to attain. Quickly, my accomplishment was shared with others, who proudly celebrated my triumph. It made me feel so special that other employees and leaders here shared my achievement with the same level of joy as if it were theirs.
What’s one of your favorite stories about helping a 180 Medical customer?
Although it’s been a while since I worked as a Documentation Specialist, this story still hits me in my heart. I used to call our customers regularly if we needed updated insurance information. One day, I called someone who had just found out he had prostate cancer. We talked for a little while together. After a deep breath, he said he was determined to beat it. He was just so uplifting and encouraging. I told him we would be with him through the process and that we were there for him. He started a journey with us and didn’t have to face that hard time alone. He thanked me for my help, and at the end of the day, it felt wonderful to know we had both touched each other’s lives in a way.
Tell us about yourself outside of work.
I’m a silly, quirky ball of energy. I try not to take life too seriously because the world can always use a few more smiles and a little more joy. I love to be outdoors with my friends and family.
Some of my hobbies include hiking, kayaking, camping, traveling, etc. Also, I LOVE to dance. I’ve led two Zumba classes at 180 Medical.
What’s a quote that inspires you daily?
“Making one person smile can change the world – maybe not the whole world, but their world.” — John Spence. I truly believe smiling is contagious, and I’ve learned that something so small can have a big impact.
Most people say the first thing they notice about me is my smile. It took me a while to realize its effect. The number of stories I have heard from fellow employees about how my smile brightened their day or calmed their nerves when they first started at 180 made me realize it is the most important change I can make in the world.
For many of our customers at 180 Medical, the journey of starting to use catheters or ostomy supplies may be a new one, and sometimes they feel like their world is crashing down. But because they chose 180 Medical to supply them, that’s a world we get to affect, to impact. We are fortunate to be able to take care of their supply needs and make that part of their lives a little easier. It may not be the whole world, but we are touching their world.
